On leaving the Royal Northern College of Music and completing his studies in 2000, Gavin returned to the Midlands to work as a Free-Lance trumpet player.  His Orchestral experience includes work with orchestras such as the C.B.S.O. and the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, and work in theatres around the country both in musical theatre and more “classical” theatre such as the Royal Shakespeare Company.

He also enjoys playing in chamber groups and is a member of Sennet Brass Quintet and the Salvation Army ensemble Vision Brass.  He has played with Salvation Army Brass Bands as well as with Bands such as Brighouse and Rastrick and The Black Dyke Band.  He has an interest in Big Band Jazz, in which medium he has performed with British stars such as Kenny Baker and Mark Nightingale.  Gavin also fulfils a number of solo engagements throughout the year and has recently performed Trumpet Concertos, as well as more varied recitals.  He also enjoys and feels privileged to perform for the Salvation Army around the UK whether as soloist, as part of the Vision Brass Ensemble or as part of Birmingham Citadel Band with whom he is Principal Cornet.

As well as performing, Gavin is also in demand as a teacher.  He is currently on the teaching staff at Birmingham Conservatoire Junior School and in 2008 took up the post of Director of Music at Stafford Independent Grammar School. Gavin enjoys conducting ensembles from various musical genres and is delighted to be working with Cornerstone Brass.
